Q. What exactly is Brazilian Butt Lift?
Ans: Brazilians or Latin American women are known for their shapely behinds. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez have further popularised the concept of a shapely Derrierre! In this procedure, fat from unwanted areas of the body such as tummy or thighs is harvested by liposuction using very tiny cannulae. This fat is then purified and washed and then injected in specific areas of the buttock to uplift and shape the behind.

Q. What is the downtime for this procedure?
Ans: The buttock area feels numb or sore for a couple of days. I normally advise my patients to use a soft pillow or cushion to sit on. We provide a customised pressure garment to give good support to the tummy and buttock area. Patients are advised to wear this corset for 4-6 weeks.

Q. Who are good candidates for this procedure?
Ans: Women who have excess fat in the body especially in areas such as tummy or inner thighs and who have no major fluctuations in body weight are ideal candidates for this procedure. Women who are very lean and do not have much subcutaneous fat in the body are not candidates for this procedure.

Q. How long does the effect of Brazilian Butt lift last?
Ans: If the body weight is maintained, the effect of the Brazilian Butt lift will last for many years. But since these are live fat cells, if someone looses overall body weight then even these injected fat cells can reduce in size. Exercise, strict dieting and weight loss can affect the buttock fat like the rest of body.

Q. Is this a one-time procedure?
Ans: the injected fat cells can shrink in size over a period of 2-3 years. Therefore , a touch-up might be required to add some more fat to the butts. It has been found that more number of fat cells survive when the injection is done for the second time.

Q. What are the other options for buttock enhancement?
Ans: In women who are very lean, the other alternative is to use silicone gel implants. These implants come in various sizes and last for a lifetime. They are inserted through a 3cm incision in the midline. The feel of these implants is very much like normal buttocks.

Q. What are the advantages of the Brazilian Butt lift over silicone butt implants?
Ans: there is nothing artificial added to the body in this procedure. Excess fat from one’s own body is removed and injected in the buttocks. So it has the dual advantage of slimming in the desired area of the body and getting a shapely behind, without any harmful effect. Plus the look and feel of this is very very natural. There are no marks on the body so nobody can make out that any procedure has been done on the person.
